In your search for a new home, learning about the neighborhood schools is essential to identifying ideal areas. Ratings are a helpful tool for understanding a school’s academic record, but there is so much more to schools than students’ test scores. The enrichment programs, such as extracurricular activities and advancement opportunities also paint a vivid picture of a school district’s approach to education.
One of the reasons that Leander ISD is a top-rated school district is its commitment to enriching students and providing opportunities for them across its 44 campuses. The district focuses heavily on extracurricular activities, preparing students for college and careers. For example, the Career and Technical Education program provides authentic industry learning experiences that allow students to gain job skill training and scholarship opportunities. College readiness program Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and the
OnRamps dual enrollment program through the University of Texas provide students with the skills to excel in college.
All LISD high school campuses offer AP Program courses, while the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is available at Leander and Vandegrift high schools. Students who complete the program are honored in an annual ceremony that allows alums to share their experiences with current students. Even at the elementary school level, Leander ISD offers the
IB Primary Years Programme at Grandview Hills and Mason Elementary and
QUEST-G/T services to provide challenging learning opportunities for identified gifted students at all campuses.
Across the district, LISD campuses offer opportunities through various extracurricular activities for students to showcase their talent and expand their horizons. In December 2023, Reed Elementary hosted its 10th annual Spanish Poetry Festival, where students memorized and recited poetry in Spanish and enjoyed performances from Baile Folklorico groups.
Cedar Park, Rouse, and Vandegrift High School’s cross country students won medals at a state meet in November 2023. Cedar Park, Leander, and Rouse high school marching bands also delivered impressive performances at state championships.
